Miyazaki is a prefecture of Japan on the island of Kyushu. It is located on the eastern coast of the island of Kyushu, surrounded by the Pacific Ocean to the south and east, Oita Prefecture to the north, and Kumamoto and Kagoshima prefectures to the west.
12% of the areas are designated as Natural Parks, Quasi-National Parks and Prefectural Natural Parks.
If you are in the northern part of Miyazaki, you should take the time to visit, “Takachiho Gorge”. This gorge appears in Japan's oldest historic writings, “Kojiki” and “Nihon Shoki”. The gorge has an amazing view. Seven kilometers of 80m-high cliffs overhanging the narrow winding river flowing down from Mt. Aso.
The local food are very good in Miyazaki. They have their famous Wagyu, Miyazaki Beef and the very expensive, Miyazaki mangos. Here I would like to introduce the “Charcoal-grilled Chicken” that is one of the ways to enjoy the deep taste of the Miyazaki chicken. The breast is mainly used for the “charcoal-grilled chicken”, and even though only salt is used for seasoning, it brings out the deliciousness of the chicken.
Although the ocean around Miyazaki is famous globally among the surfers for its waves, diving is also great. Macro marine life are abundant but if you’re lucky, you may even encounter the popular “Thrasher sharks” (Alopias) in some diving areas.
